Se distribuye por toda la península y Baleares.

Nombre científico: Asio otus

Longitud: 35-40 cm,envergadura: 85-100 cm, frecuente, sedentario, cazador

Este bello pájaro se podría confundir por el color y por el tamaño con la lechuza campestre y por el color con el cárabo,aunque la lechuza campestre es mas gruesa que el búho chico que a veces llega a imitar ramas de árboles. Si la observación es buena se pueden observar las denominadas "orejas" que no son mas que dos penachos, las verdaderas orejas están escondidas entre las plumas. Normalmente construye su nido en nidos abandonados de otras especies o en agujeros, a estas aves es facil encontrarlas en lugares arbolados, en época de celo podemos oir un bonito arrullo. Existen unos 6000-7000 ejemplares en toda la península.

This beautiful bird could made a mistake for the color and for the size with the Short eared owl and for the color with the tawny Owl, although the short eared owl is but thick that the long eared owl that sometimes ends up imitating branches of trees.
